Hamid Karzai International Airport

At 9:44am on August 21, 2021 the Pentagon confirmed one explosion occurred at the Hamid Karzai International Airport. The explosion was confirmed a suicide bombing by ISIS-K terrorist group. Estimating 200 deaths including 13 servicemembers of the United States, hundreds wounded.

Attack on Thursday, August 26, 2021, making it the deadliest single day of the war for the United States in more than a decade. The American servicemembers went above and beyond the call of duty to protect citizens of the United States and our allies to ensure the safety in an extremely dangerous situation as the Taliban regained control over Afghanistan.

These American servicemembers exemplified extreme bravery, valor and dedicated their lives and heroism against armed enemy combatants. These members derseve the greatest honor.

The Speaker of the House of Representatives and the President pro temper of the Senate will make arrangements for the posthumous presentation of a single gold medal in commemoration to the 13 servicemembers who perished in Afghanistan on August 26, 2021. The Secretary of the Treasury shall strike a gold medal with suitable emblems, devices and inscriptions.

The gold medal will be given to the Smithosian Institution and will be for display outside of the District of Columbia at times, particularly at other locations associated with the 13 servicemembers who perished in Afghanistan on August 26, 2021.

The Secretary of the Treasury may strike and sell duplicate medals in bronze, all medals shall be considered to be numismatic items.

Authority to charge against the United States Mint Public Enterprise Fund and sales will be deposited into he United States Mint Public Enterprise Fund.

The budget effects comply with the Statutory Pay As You Go Act of 2010.
